A field guide to the graveyard

How to turn a weird prompt into a tattooable idea.

01 / About

What is Graveyard Flash?

A free tattoo flash idea generator for artists and illustrators. It combines subjects, extras, twists, compositions, and styles to kick-start a concept. The simple sentence is made by local rules; it does not generate images or replace your design decisions.

02 / How to use it

Summon an idea

  1. Choose a primary family or leave it on Any family.
  2. Choose a secondary family to narrow the subject pool.
  3. Use reroll arrows to change one ingredient at a time.
  4. Lock anything you like and reroll the unlocked fields.
  5. Copy the simple concept, inspect the full prompt, and save favourites.
03 / Challenges

Practice when you need a nudge

The Daily Grave is shared worldwide and changes at 00:00 UTC, so everyone gets the same prompt for the same date. The monthly prompt offers a broader theme and an archive of past months. The monthly prompt offers a broader theme. Click a challenge-deck card, inspect its rules, then press Start selected challenge. Use the optional timer and mark your sketch complete.

04 / Design tips

Make it tattooable

  • Start with the silhouette. It should read at a small size.
  • Give the focal point room. One clear subject beats six competing details.
  • Protect negative space. Chains, fur, feathers and florals can become visual noise.
  • Make elements interact. A chain can act as a leash; a moth can sit on a creature's nose.
05 / Resources

Use references thoughtfully

The Resources page gathers Procreate learning, pose tools, anatomy references and brush marketplaces. Check licences before commercial use.

06 / Your data

Saved here, not in the cloud

Lists and favourites are stored locally in this browser. Export a backup before switching devices or clearing browser data. Sharing the site shares the link, not your saved prompts.

07 / Support & creator

Made by an artist, for artists.

Graveyard Flash is created by Charlie Jackdaw. Hosting costs money, and optional donations help keep the site online and fund future improvements. I'd love to make a proper app in the future, too, but development and publishing come with extra costs. Donations are never expected; the generator stays free to use.
